Pat Coffey

Pastor (since 2016)

Pastor Pat has close to 30 years of pastoral service with a wide range of ministry experience; serving churches in both rural and urban areas over many parts of Virginia, and has taught at a Bible Institute.  He is trained and certified in MasterLife discipleship training, FAITH witness training, and Continuing Witness Training (CWT).  Pastor Pat has served on state and regional committees, including the Executive Board of the Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia. He served 10 years as a trustee of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.; serving as chairman of the Student Services Committee and on the Executive Committee.

He’s been happily married to Donna for 36 years.  Donna is  special education teacher and has a love for music and children, and their little dog Deacon.  She likes the pool, the sun, and reading.  Pat & Donna enjoy dining out and watching good movies together.

The Coffey’s have two children: Aaron Coffey, a graduate of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville with a Master’s Degree in Missions.  Aaron and his wife Sydney work at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.  Their daughter Sarah Coffey is a graduate of Liberty University, with a degree in Theatre Arts Production and Musical Theatre.  Sarah works at Busch Gardens, Williamsburg, as well as with a number of local productions.

Pastor Pat’s overriding passion in life is to be a good husband, father, pastor, and effective disciple-maker.  He can be seen taking prayer-walks with Deacon.  The two of them enjoy watching sports together, especially football; as well as playing other games involving balls and Frisbees.   Pat enjoys board games and has been trying for many years to learn the game of chess.

Wayne McElveen

Ministry Assistant  (since 2012)

Wayne serves Providence as the Ministry Assistant, assisting the Pastor in many ways.  He enjoys music and singing and leads the worship music during Sunday morning and evening services.  He visits those in the hospital, shut-ins, and nursing homes.  He has assisted at Sumter Middle Schools and High Schools with First Priority Bible Clubs.  Wayne has a Bachelors degree from the University of South Carolina and attended Columbia Bible College.  He enjoys studying God’s Word and his two favorite Bible verses are Isaiah 41:10 and Philippians 4:13.  His mission in ministry is to share the love of Jesus with others.  Wayne has two daughters and enjoys watching their theatrical and musical performances at their schools.  He also is an avid college athletics fan and enjoys following his favorite team, the Clemson Tigers.  He is also a huge Baltimore Orioles fan.

Beverly Anderson

Office Manager (since 2004)

Beverly is married to Wallace Anderson (25 years) with 2 daughters, Allison and Lauren.  Allison is a teacher/principal at a local Christian school and also the children’s minister at Crosswell Baptist Church.  Lauren is studying to be a nurse and is set to graduate Spring 2017.  Beverly loves to make things – sew, crochet, paint, make wreaths, do string art, and wood burning.  She plays softball and likes to run/walk/jog.  She also likes to sing with her church choir and a small praise team, “Mended Vessels.”  Bev is a part of a two woman comedy team, “BeBe & Maggie.”  But above all else, she loves the Lord and serving Him at Providence Baptist Church.

Susan Mitchum

Choir Director, Pianist (since 2010)

Susan is the widow of Wayne Mitchum.  She has 3 wonderful children and 2 brilliant grandchildren.  Wes Pellerin, her son, lives in Cayce with his wife, Sarah (a high school English teacher) and her granddaughter, Sybil, who is 4 and looks and acts like her Grandma! Wes is a video-editor and bassist.  Her son, Eric, lives with her and keeps her going; he is a master carpenter. Susan’s daughter, Lisa, and her husband, Chris, are living the good life in Florida! Her grandson, Zach, is an engineer in Illinois.  Besides her ministry at Providence, Susan hosts a gospel night at the Gospel Barn. This is her 6th year with her Providence family and at the Barn.  Susan is most alive when she is playing the piano and singing God’s praises.  Her favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 40:31.

Marlene Hodge

Organist (since 1966)

Marlene serves at Providence Baptist Church as organist and Spirit Players (Hand Chimes) leader, church clerk, and historian. Her profession is in education, but her avocation is music.  She and her twin sister were playing the piano at Providence when they were Juniors in high school.  She is a certified English teacher and Guidance Counselor.  She has taught and still works at Manning High School, her high school alma mater.  She taught high school English for many years, and now works as a Guidance counselor.  She and her family have always attended and served at Providence.  Her 92-year-old Dad and World War II veteran, Dargan, has taught and still teaches Sunday School, and her brother Keith is also a very active member.  Marlene enjoys playing the piano and organ, reading, and writing.  She loves the Lord, and it is her Joy to serve at Providence.
